A key leadership opportunity exists for an experienced HSETQ Superintendent to support a major mining operation in Western Australia. Working on a 4:3, 4:3, 8:6 roster. You will be responsible for leading and coordinating all Health, Safety, Environment, Training and Quality functions across the project, ensuring compliance, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will provide leadership and strategic direction to a team comprising HSEQ Advisors and Trainers & Assessors, supporting a growing workforce expected to reach between 250–400 personnel. This role offers the opportunity to influence safety culture, workforce capability, and operational performance across a large-scale mining project with significant expansion plans.

Key result areas include:

 

  • Provide leadership, guidance and support on all Health, Safety, Environment, Training and Quality matters across the project.
  • Provide expert and practical advice on Work Health and Safety controls to operational and site-based teams.
  • Engage, coach and support HSETQ personnel, Supervisors and Managers in the implementation and application of MACA's HSEQ systems and frameworks.
  • Develop and assist in delivering the project Health and Safety Management Plan, Environmental Management Plan, and associated objectives
  • Ensure compliance with statutory WHS requirements, client expectations, and MACA's HSETQ management systems.
  • Facilitate and support incident reporting, investigations and corrective action management, ensuring accurate and timely reporting through INX.
  • Review and analyse weekly and monthly HSETQ performance metrics, identifying trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Drive health promotion initiatives by engaging stakeholders and using data to identify and implement targeted wellbeing improvements.
  • Lead the management of occupational hygiene and health risks, ensuring critical controls are prioritised and remain effective.
  • Manage injury processes and fitness for work outcomes, including workers compensation and medical risk, to support safe and sustainable return to work.
  • Support workforce capability through training, competency management and development initiatives.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture through visible leadership, engagement and continuous improvement activities.
  • Build strong working relationships with operational leaders, project stakeholders, client and external regulatory bodies.

 

 

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • Advance Diploma in Work Health and Safety as a minimum requirement, with tertiary qualifications in HSEQ or a related discipline highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior HSEQT leadership role within the mining, resources or contracting industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of Western Australian WHS legislation, mining regulations and industry best practice.
  • Proven experience implementing and maintaining HSEQ management systems to ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Experience managing HSEQ teams and providing leadership across large-scale operational environments.
  • Lead ICAM Investigator qualification.
  • Strong understanding of WorkSafe and LGIRS compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of injury management processes and systems.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
  • High level organisational and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office and HSEQ systems experience.
  • Cert IV Training and Assessment (desirable).
