The Opportunity
Join our team as a Safety Co-ordinator, where you will be the go-to person in this key role in maintaining project-wide health and safety systems. This position is responsible for identifying hazards, assessing risks and recommending appropriate controls to the construction team.
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager you will provide expert advice on incident prevention and occupational health to both management and employees, while supporting a culture of safety vigilance, accountability, ownership, awareness and leadership across the workplace.
The M80 Ring Road Alliance (comprising of MACA, Acciona and AECOM), this package of works covers the design and construction of the North East Link between the M80 - Plenty Road interchange, and the north tunnel entrance at Watsonia. Works include three kilometres of new freeway, two kilometres of freeway upgrades, construction of retaining walls and bridge structures, rail interface works, intelligent transport systems, and urban design and landscaping.

Key result areas include:
- Implement and maintain safety systems and drive a strong safety culture.
- Monitor and improve safety performance, identifying hazards, assessing high-risk activities, and ensuring compliance by project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Lead and support incident investigations, reporting hazards, injuries, and non-conformances while promoting learning and improvement.
- Provide guidance and influence leaders and employees on OHS best practices, wellbeing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with project delivery teams to close out audit findings, review safety in design and constructability, and maintain awareness of project sequencing and risk.
- Champion health, wellbeing, and inclusion, supporting initiatives that enhance workforce safety, engagement, and diversity.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Attend team and supervisor meetings to plan and coordinate work activities; contribute to innovative project initiatives.
- Report incidents, ensure timely closure of actions, review workpacks and SWMS, and promote a strong safety culture.
- Work with site management to maintain compliance with NELNA processes and project standards; monitor and report safety trends and performance.
- Assist engineers with risk workshops and support KPI charter delivery for the relevant area.
- Participate in daily pre-starts/toolboxes, promote collaboration, adaptability, innovation, and ensure safety and sustainability are always prioritised.
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
- White Card
- Driver’s licence
- Experience in construction safety
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, and desirable certifications (RIW card, First Aid, ICAM, TAE Cert IV).
