MACA are seeking a Purchasing Officer to provide direction and oversight for the purchasing of all materials, parts, equipment and off site services which have been approved for purchase. Additionally, you will help with Identifying alternative suppliers and ensure compliance with national supply agreements.

Key result areas include:
- Customer & Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise regularly with operations staff and internal customers, providing clear updates on purchasing processes, technical details, pricing and availability while ensuring requests are accurate and compliant.
- Purchasing Execution: Source, quote, and procure materials, equipment, goods and services efficiently, leveraging catalogues, contracts, panels, and market research to support cost-effective purchasing decisions.
- Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, negotiate favourable terms for spot purchases, ensure compliance with contract pricing/availability, expedite orders, and follow up on payment queries.
- Process & Systems Administration: Maintain accurate purchasing records, use Thiess systems to process orders and invoices, and collaborate with Accounts Payable to resolve issues to ensure timely payments.
- Planning & Forecasting: Stay informed of production and maintenance schedules, contribute to BU-wide demand forecasting, and ensure purchasing activities support timely delivery of goods and operational continuity.
- Safety & Continuous Improvement: Actively promote a strong safety and environmental culture while suggesting and supporting improvements to purchasing processes to enhance efficiency and service reliability.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualification in business, supply chain, procurement or a related discipline.
- 2–5 years’ purchasing or procurement experience, ideally within heavy industry, mining, construction or similar operational environments.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, particularly JDE, with strong capability in managing purchasing workflows.
- Strong technical and commercial understanding to interpret specifications, evaluate suppliers, and support cost-effective purchasing decisions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the capability to influence outcomes, manage supplier relationships, resolve issues professionally and ensure alignment with company standards.
